"Scouting taught me valuable lessons of paddling your canoe in rough waters."
Justin has a lifelong commitment to the scouting movement, where his passion for community building and Internet Radio first took root. For nearly two decades, he founded and drove Scouting Radio, an award-winning international internet station with reporters in every corner of the globe.
As a Woodbadge recipient in 2 Associations (BP Scouts Ireland and Scouting Ireland), Gaisce Gold holder, and a recipient of both the Medal of Merit from Baden-Powell Scouts and a Chief Scout Commendation from Scouting Ireland, Justin's leadership is deeply embedded in the movement's values.
Justin's Scouting journey has taken him far beyond Ireland, including serving as an international staff member at Camp Kern and Camp Chawanakee in California. While in the US, he climbed Half Dome in Yosemite National Park and completed a grueling week-long survival camp across the Yosemite terrain. Never one to shy away from a challenge, he even skydived as a Scout leader on New Year's Day.
A defining moment in Justin's Scouting career was Scouting Radio's live broadcast during the 2007 World Scout Jamboree in the UK. This event marked the centenary of Scouting, Justin led the historic 'Scouting Sunrise' 24 hour live broadcast. This event spanned every timezone as Scout Groups worldwide renewed their promise at sunrise. The broadcast gained over a quarter of a million listeners in just 24 hours and was so significant that global media outlets acknowledged and reused it.
Under Justin's direction, Scouting Radio provided a unique, round-the-clock window into the diverse cultures and leadership skills fostered by the movement for 19 years before closing to allow him to focus on family commitments.
Combining these years of on-the-ground leadership with a deep love for the Scouting ethos, Justin is currently working on a book reflecting on his two-decade journey through the movement and Scouting's lasting impact on personal development and global connection. He has been contemplating and developing this project for over a decade and intends to eventually finish and self-publish his Scouting adventures for a wider audience.
